Sharon Louise Roberts Patching
I did this detective work for over 40 years on my own, grilling family members for memories, haunting cemeteries, sitting in dark libraries looking through microfilm and reference books, spending lots of money sending off for documents, and researching genealogy society information.
In 1994, when I had amassed so much information on so many family branches that I could not keep them straight, I bought my first computer and Family Tree Maker. Both were a God-send. Back in those days, everyone shared freely their information on the internet. I shared my huge family tree just as I am doing with this website - freely. I was put out to find that my information, like my blood was given freely but sold by the company. My fault, I should have read the small print. So for years, I harbored an anger but LOVED Family Tree Maker program.
However, in the last couple of weeks, I decided to put that all behind me so that I could more easily confirm facts. I joined Ancestry.com and have been so happy with the results and want to encourage anyone who wants to sign up for the membership to do so. I found more documents in two days than in 10 years of researching before.
